Police in Telford are warning parents to be vigilant after a threatening email was sent to a nine-year-old girl.
The email, which was sent to the girl’s email account on January 4, was sent from an unknown sender and warned that if she didn’t forward the contents on to a number of people she would die within days.
The girl’s parents, who are from the Dawley area, were so concerned when they saw the email that they alerted police.
A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "The girl’s parents saw the email and were very upset by the threatening content.
"We would urge parents across the borough to monitor their children’s emails and where possible to set up filters so that emails of this kind are less likely to be received.
"If you do receive emails from unknown recipients that are offensive, delete them. Sadly, emails of this nature are not uncommon."
